Preparing
for Assistive Technology in Your School
(2-3 hour)
Since
the implementation of the IDEA requirement that an IEP team consider
whether a student requires Assistive Technology Devices or Services
many schools do not feel adequately prepared to answer this question.
Some schools are only aware of expensive devices which cost thousands
of dollars and with limited resources are afraid to answer yes
to the question. Others don’t know where to begin making
the decision regarding what might be appropriate for a particular
student.
Several agencies and individuals around the country have addressed
this issue by creating easy to use and easy to implement assessment
processes and forms to use when addressing the issue of what might
be appropriate technology for a student.
Participants will receive an overview of these best practices
along with sample forms and a resource list of contacts and information.
This is a presentation not to be missed by administrators charged
with the responsibility to fulfill this IDEA requirement.
